Calance Helps Haskell Integrate Procore and JDE

Overview

Haskell is a global network of experts providing integrated design, engineering, construction and professional services to clients and communities. It brings a history of innovation and thoughtful expertise to craft the optimal solution for every project or program, regardless of size or market. Haskell pioneered the design-build model more than 50 years ago and brought it to its rightful place within the AEC industry, believing in putting clients first, listening generously to understand their distinct situation, and responding with innovative solutions that emanate from their point of view.

Challenge

Haskell is one of the world's top international construction firms with offices across the globe. When they first purchased Procore, they did not have a way to integrate it with their ERP system, Oracle JD Edwards (JDE). And yet in order to get the maximum benefit from Procore they needed to have financials flowing between the two systems. In addition, their growing number of projects, and growing international work, meant that they needed a solution that could be customized and scaled up as needed.

They had a number of choices: to build an integration systems themselves from scratch, to use a third-party toolkit to build it themselves, or to use a pre-built integration service. They opted to go with an out-of-the-box, cloud-based solution that would allow for their business users to monitor, manage, and schedule the integrations without getting bogged down maintaining infrastructure and updates.

Our Solution

After reviewing and testing different solutions, Haskell chose to go with Calance and their Dimension system, a true cloud-based integration system with specific modules to integrate Procore and JDE. Dimension enables a suite of integrations to run on the cloud following a set of standard processes which can be configured and customized as needed. Haskell chose to integrate the following modules:

  • Vendors
  • Projects
  • Budgets & Changes
  • Cost Codes and Sub Jobs
  • Commitments & Change Orders
  • Commitment Invoices
  • Check Payments
  • Direct Cost Invoices
  • Miscellaneous Costs

Haskell and Calance worked together to establish the proper data flow and validations, and rigorously tested processes in a sandbox. The integrations were rolled out to production in a phased manner, allowing for the end-users to shift their habits into doing the bulk of the work in Procore, rather than JDE. We also brought on a number of live projects, smoothly migrating their data into Procore so that the projects could also be completed in the integrated system. In 2020, Haskell brought their Mexican subsidiary into the integrations, greatly enhancing the project management experience for that division.

Results

Haskell saw immediate benefits from this integration. There is no more double data entry, and data flows smoothly and quickly between the two systems. This greatly reduces human errors and improves overall data quality. With increased efficiency, project managers are now able to focus on what really matters - meeting project scope, schedule, and budget. In addition, the flexible and modular architecture of the Dimension Integration Framework means that the solution can be adjusted and expanded as needed and can scale as Haskell grows.

“Calance brought an out-of-the-box cloud-based solution that we could implement within months and not years. Calance also brought deep functional knowledge of Procore and JD Edwards, and a direct relationship with Procore. Calance has allowed us to focus on core business rules and not technology. ”
